Grade 8 Resources
Cells, Tissues, Organs, and Systems
1. Science-Class.net (PDF)
This document illustrates how students would develop an understanding about the differences between plant and animal cells. The students would build a cell and demonstrate an understanding of the function of each part. It includes notes, activity, and questions. (CS8.1)
2. Cells to Organ Systems Teacher Resources (from bj's Resources) (PDF)
This document provides "station" ideas observing and documenting different types of cells, and these could be adapted to be classroom activities.
I would add worksheets and questions about the types of cells to make it a fuller lesson. (CS8.1-8.2)

Water Systems on Earth
1. Water Cycle Observation from Science-Class.net (PDF)
After learning about the water cycle, this activity helps the students visualize it. The experiment consists of 2 weeks of observing a miniature water cycle. (WS8.2)
2. Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) (PDF)
This lesson allows students to develop ideas about the environment and understand the importance of water. This particular lesson was included in my mini-unit. (WS8.1)
3. Global, Environmental, and Outdoor Education Council (DOC)

This lesson requires students to test water quality while understanding the impacts of human water use. (WS8.1, 8.3)
5.UN.org Lesson Plan on Water (DOC)
This unit includes several activities to help students understand the importance of water, uses of water, improving communities with a lack of clean water, and other action plans (including personal plans) to conserve water.
6. Project Flow - Learning for a Sustainable Future (PDF)
This unit consists of several activities and lessons for conserving water, understanding issues related to water, and the human effects on the water systems.
7. Science In Action Water Unit Plans (ProjectWET) (PDF)
This document give specific examples of activities from ProjectWET that produce outcomes related to Grade 8 Water Systems. It comes from BC but relates directly to Saskatchewan Curriculum as well. It includes 11 activities, most of them regarding the direct information about water systems, not human impacts. (WS8.2)
8. www.firstnationsnt.ca (PDF)
This compilation of 4 lesson plans includes "Where Are The Frogs?" a ProjectWILD activity that demonstrates effects on aquatic ecosystems. It also includes grade 7 IE plans. (WS8.3)
9. Water.org Water Crisis Mini-Unit (PDF)
Water.org provides a multitude of ways to teach children about the water crises around the world. The "Water Commons" lesson was used as a part of my mini-unit. It also includes a research project for students to learn about water situations in the rest of the world. (WS8.1)
10. Destination Conservation Saskatchewan - Saving Water (PDF)
This lesson creates student awareness regarding water use, conservation, and waste. It offers suggestions for conserving water, and common water consumption practices that students may not be aware of. (WS8.1)
11. Destination Conservation Saskatchewan - Watersheds (PDF)
This lesson focuses on watersheds and allows students to build their own landscape to visualize how water moves through watersheds. (WS8.1-8.3)
